Marisa Tomei Says She Waned Her Character To Be A Lesbian In The Spider-Man Films

The actor plays Aunt May in the most recent incarnation of the Marvel superhero series, starring alongside Tom Holland who plays the titular Spidey.

But while fans of the character will know that May is married to Uncle Ben, who sadly dies, Tomei said she was keen to see her have a girlfriend.

And she even pitched Sony producer Amy Pascal as a potential to take on the rile.

Speaking on Geeks of Colour, the 57-year-old said: “There was a moment where I felt that May – maybe she should just be with a woman because Ben is gone.

“And we were kind of talking about it, and so I actually really wanted Amy Pascal from Sony to be my girlfriend.

“I was like, ‘No one even has to know, Amy. I’ll just be in a scene and you’ll be over there. And I’ll just be, like, ‘Hey!’ It’ll just be a subtle thing’.”

However, nothing came of it in the end.

Tomei added: “No one went for it at the time.”

The third instalment of the new Spider-Man series finally landed in cinemas this month.

And in just a few days, the film has blown the box office apart, taking over $1 billion (£746,450,000) within just 12 days of its release.

And, according to estimates, added a whopping $81.5 million (£60,835,675) over the three-day weekend.

The movie, which is a co-production between Sony and Marvel-Cinematic Universe owners Disney, sees Tom Holland reprise his role of Peter Parker alongside Zendaya as Michelle Jones Watson – better known as MJ.

The flick’s impressive run at the cinema makes it Sony’s top-grossing domestic movie ever, the Daily Mail reports.

Talking about the partnership between Sony and Disney, BoxOffice.com chief analyst Shawn Robbins told CNBC: “The partnership between these two Hollywood entities is clearly one of great benefit to both.”

He went on: “The symbiotic circle they form could reap rewards for a long time to come, and with characters beyond just Spider-Man, if it continues to flourish creatively.

“The results of the past few years have shown it to be in the best interest of everyone for such a partnership to endure, and perhaps even inspire other tag-teams throughout the industry.”
