Barcelona Reportedly Upping His Salary Demands After The Arrival Of Ferran Torres

A £55m signing from Manchester City, the Catalan giants unveiled their latest recruit at a presentation on Monday afternoon after the finer details of his bumper five-and-a-half-year deal had been agreed.

Despite the deal being formalised, the 21-year-old is unable to be registered officially as a Barcelona player due to the club’s depleting financial situation.

Manager Xavi has confirmed the La Liga side need to reduce their sizeable wage bill before Torres is permitted to make his debut.

Matters have not been helped by star man Dembele who sees the arrival of the Spaniard as a threat to his position and is now said to be increasing his salary demands to stay in Catalunya.

Barca had been hoping the Frenchman would agree to a pay cut which would have lowered their squad salary to under La Liga’s capped limit.

Spanish outlet SPORT report Dembele is now unwilling to lower his wage demands as he feels Barca are only trying to tie him down to a new deal so that they can flog him in the summer, rather than lose him for on a free transfer.

He has also questioned why he should be expected to reduce his income whilst the club are still credited with an interest in a mega-money move for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.
