The Reds secured a fifth win in five Group B games with a 2-0 triumph over Porto at Anfield on Wednesday.
Thiago Alcantara and Mohamed Salah scored second-half goals after the visitors had spurned several chances before the interval to capitalise on an indifferent first-half performance from a Liverpool side sporting four changes.“We could have lost this game, we gave chances away where they should have scored,” said the Reds boss.
“That would have made the game difficult, we were lucky in moments.
“We have our moments where we are really not cool to play against, that’s true.
“I didn’t expect that tonight really because we changed decisive things, to be honest. We don’t expect the boys immediately to become a pressing machine.
“You know we have to grow into the game, and that’s what happened. That’s what I was happy about.
“But we have to play a lot better against Southampton on Saturday as they are a real pressing machine.
“A lot of good things happened tonight but I’m not sure we should make a mistake by saying ‘we are this’ or ‘we are that’ again. But we are in a good moment and we should try everything to keep that going.”
Klopp added: “The whole game we needed moments of some luck due to a few new things we did today, they had big chances, especially counter-attacking on the left side where it was really tricky to defend.
“They had their moments but didn’t score. We scored twice and controlled with second half much better. I’m really pleased with the performance.”
