Manchester United Could Write Themselves Into The Premier League History Books Tonight Against Aston Villa

The two sides meet at Villa Park in a 5.30pm kick-off just a few days after they clashed in the FA Cup on Monday night.

Steven Gerrard’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat to the Red Devils in that encounter at Old Trafford with Scott McTominay’s first-half goal proving the match-winner.

Three points would prove useful for Ralf Rangnick’s side in their quest for a European qualification spot. If they can defeat Gerrard’s outfit, they would move to just three points off the top-four.

In addition to that, however, victory at Villa Park would mean United become the first team to pass 300 away victories since the Premier League was rebranded in 1992.

Villa were beaten in cruel circumstances at Old Trafford with Danny Ings having a goal disallowed after a lengthy VAR check.

The Villans tonight though will be looking to make it a Premier League double over the Red Devils having come out 1-0 victors in the return fixture at Old Trafford in September 2021.

Gerrard is determined to finish the season strongly at Villa Park and had not ruled out further ventures into the transfer market to improve his squad, with a centre-back on the agenda.

“There might be opportunities again,’ he said. “It is steel and style we are looking for.

“Can we find that level of player who is going to improve the team, or do we need cover for injuries or suspension?

“I like to have four centre backs and we only have three, so we are analysing that situation.”
