Mason Greenwood Has Been Named On A 20-Player Shortlist For The Coveted Golden Boy Award

Starting this season in blistering fashion, the talented Manchester United graduate scored in each of the opening three Premier League games – although individual and collective form has fallen by the wayside since then.

Regardless of that, though, Greenwood remains one of the hottest prospects in Europe and his standing has been recognised in nomination for the prize.

Won by Norway goal machine Erling Haaland in 2020, the accolade is handed to the best-performing U21 player in Europe and is voted for by sports journalists across the continent.

In effect, it’s a supplementary version of the Ballon d’Or picked up five times by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Greenwood is one of three England players named on the 2021 shortlist.

Although he missed out on Euro 2020 selection this summer, the Bradford-born striker has done more than enough to be included alongside Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham – who has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Another player linked with United during the summer window – in their quest to sign a top-level holding midfielder – former Rennes prospect Camavinga instead opted for a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
